Actuators
The IntelliVibe actuators are composed of a piezoelectric actuator and custom-designed electronics in an ultra-small, electronically shielded package, which is easily implemented on a variety of structures using removable epoxy (provided) .
The sleek IntelliVibe® easily fits in the palm of your hand. Only 113mm x 42mm x 14mm, this product can be used on a wide variety of machine geometries. The piezo covers 2/3 of the IntelliVibe® area, giving a high spatial efficiency and allowing for multiple units to be used together.
Piezoceramic materials, such as the Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) used in the IntelliVibe® actuator, transduce electric fields into mechanical strains and mechanical strains into electric charges. By absorbing the strains from a structure, the material becomes a sensor. By applying these strains to a structure, the material becomes an actuator and can be used in many ways, including controlling vibration.
An isolated fly back transformer isolates the secondary stage of the amplifier, protecting sensitive equipment from ground loops. A lightweight ethernet protocol (IEEE 802.3af – Power over Ethernet) is used for both power and data transmission. The actuators utilize standard cat5 patch cable that converts to a compact ten position flex connector, this allows for greater functionality and control. Thermal connection from the hottest components to the top of the packaging allows for external cooling.
The actuators are powered by external 48V with a 5V input signal. That voltage is fed through a step-up transformer to generate 125V, this voltage feeds a high voltage op-amp which is used to generate the ±100V output. The output source is completely isolated from the 5V input, this is important for various safety reasons and to prevent ground loops.
Connecting the piezoceramic actuator and the amplifier is a spring connector. This reliable connector, also used as a cell phone battery contact, makes it easy to swap amplifiers in the rare instance it needs replacing.
